MacTarnahan’s Full Bloom: Cool Label, Meh Lager

I pay a lot of attention to craft-beer labels, packaging and bottle design. In an increasingly competitive market where hundreds, even thousands, of bottles are placed next to each other on packed store shelves, unique, creative and visually-appealing labels and bottle design can help certain beers and breweries stand out and, in turn, sell more beers.

MacTarnahan's Full Bloom craft lager

I recently had a Full Bloom craft lager from MacTarnahan’s Brewing in Portland, Ore., and though the lager can be summed up with an unenthusiastic, “meh,” the label caught my eye. In fact, the bright colors and cool design led me to pick up the bottle in the first place. Obviously, I then bought it.
